The solar planning thread got me thinking about this from the electric boat side.
I’ve got an older covered dock/boathouse setup that will probably need to be redone at some point. I’m not buying an electric boat tomorrow, but I don’t want to rebuild the dock and then realize later that I should have planned for charging from the start.
It seems like the boat is only part of the equation. If the boathouse is going to support electric boating, the dock, wiring, solar, and equipment space all matter too.
For someone who might buy or convert to an electric boat down the road, what would you plan ahead of time?
A few things I’m wondering about:
- Dedicated charging circuit
- Extra conduit
- Shore power upgrades
- Space for batteries or equipment
- Solar that could help offset some of the load
- Safety around water and electricity
What would you want roughed in before spending money on the boat?
